Floors and walls covered with tiles are practical and look beautiful. Achieving the right visual effect requires the use of carefully selected finishes. One of the elements necessary to create an effective interior are tile strips. Their task is to mask the joints and protect the edges of ceramic, glass or mosaic tiles.
It is difficult to choose tiles that will not need to be cut and will fit perfectly into the dimensions of the floors and walls. Ceramics are also used to create beautiful shelves and niches, the edges of which require appropriate finishing. Beveling at an angle is a technique that not every tiler can do well. In addition, the edges of ceramics are susceptible to chipping.
Fortunately, tile trims solve these problems. They are a quick and easy way to extend the life of your ceramics and ensure that your room looks flawless.
Finishing strips are made from different materials. Check out the benefits of each of the available solutions:
PVC strips are the cheapest option, they are waterproof and easy to clean. Available in many patterns and colors, imitating e.g. wood or metal.
Aluminum strips - durable and resistant to damage, ideal for modern and minimalist interiors. Available in various finishes, e.g. anodized, polished, satin.
Stainless steel strips are the most expensive option, but also the most prestigious, giving the interior an elegant and luxurious character. They are distinguished by their high resistance to corrosion and damage.
When choosing strips, consider the type of tiles first. For rectified tiles with even edges, thin, delicate metal strips (e.g. aluminum, stainless steel) or ceramic strips - in the same color as the tiles - will work perfectly. In the case of tiles with uneven edges or a large joint, wider finishing strips will be a better solution.
Remember to match the strips to the style of the interior. In modern interiors, metal strips with simple shapes and a matte or glossy finish will work well. In classic arrangements, strips in the color of wood or ceramic, often milled or decorated with ornaments, will work well.
Finally, functionality - PVC tile strips are great for bathrooms and kitchens. They are easy to clean and do not react to moisture. However, for floors that we use often, e.g. in the hallway, tile strips that are resistant to mechanical damage, i.e. aluminum or stainless steel, will work well.
Installing tile trims is relatively easy and can be done by yourself. Detailed installation instructions can be found in the instructions included with the product.
How to install finishing strips? Step-by-step instructions:
Apply a thin layer of mounting glue to the underside of the strip using a gun or a notched trowel. Make sure the glue is evenly distributed over the entire surface.
Press the strip firmly against the edge of the tiles, making sure it is perfectly level. If necessary, use a rubber mallet to gently tap the strip into place.
Use a damp sponge or cloth to remove any excess adhesive that seeps out from under the strip.
Wait the time recommended by the adhesive manufacturer for it to dry completely.
Our advice:
Before installation, thoroughly clean and dry the surface of the tiles,
use mounting glue designed for a given type of strip/tile,
press the strip carefully onto the tiles and leave the glue to dry,
Once the glue has dried, remove any excess with a damp cloth.
